Our Journey: From Our First Bag at 19 to Our Final Collection Before Retirement

Our names are Harold & Dorothy, and for us, crafting Leather Shoes has always been more than just a trade — it’s been our life’s purpose. We've been handmaking bags since we were 19 years old. But now, the time has come to set down our tools and step into retirement. Our heart has long yearned for more time with our grandchildren, and that season of life has finally arrived.

Let us take you on a personal journey — from our earliest days to today, where we still find peace in the quiet rhythm of our workshop.

🇬🇧 10,000 + Brittons Love Our Craftsmanship

Rooted in UK — Where Tradition Meets Craftsmanship

We were born in 1969 in Camden Town, — UK, a place known for its charm, history, and artisan heritage. My wife Dorothy was fortunately my neighbour so we were brought up almost together. Our childhood was filled with the scent of leather, the creak of floorboards in our store, and the soft jingle of the door chime as customers walked in.

My parents ran a small but beloved leather goods store downtown. It was there we learned that true craftsmanship goes far beyond technique — it’s about creating something meaningful and lasting.

A Quiet Love for Craft — Nurtured Behind the Scenes

Although our parents had dreams of other careers for me and so does Dorothy's Parents but we were always drawn to the back room — to the workbench.

While other kids were outside riding bikes, Me and Dorothy were stitching scraps of leather, oiling hides, and watching transformations happen before our eyes. Those quiet hours taught us things no classroom ever could — and shaped the person we would become.

Our Very First Creation — Simple, Honest, Unforgettable

Me and Dorothy at work in our parents' workshop

At 19, we stood at the workbench for the first time, entirely on our own. our father stood beside me as we crafted a Leather Shoe for a child— clean lines, soft tan leather, and just enough room for essentials. our mother proudly placed it in the shop’s front window.

That very same day, someone bought it. That moment changed our life. Our hands weren’t just making Shoes — they were telling stories.

Taking Over the Family Store at 22 — With Bold Ideas and a Big Vision

When our parents decided to retire, I was faced with a choice: move on or carry on. I chose to carry forward their legacy and Dorothy was by our side — and to build upon it. We gave the store a fresh face, brought in a new team, and introduced new designs that blended classic craftsmanship with modern utility.

The Fire That Took Everything — And Sparked Something New

In the summer of 1993, tragedy struck. A short circuit led to a fire that destroyed everything — the tools, the inventory, the workshop, the memories.

A Fresh Start — Rebuilt With Grit and Grace

But we didn’t give up. We started again — in an old barn on the outskirts of town. It was rough, but it was Ours.

With secondhand tools and a notebook full of orders, We stitched our way back. Customers returned — not just for the bags, but to support the story, the effort, the heart behind it all.

A New Business, and a Growing Family

Three years later, we reopened in the very neighborhood where it all began.

Only this time, every detail bore our personal mark. That’s when Dorothy and Me decided to get married. She admired the fine stitching on a weekender bag, and we ended up together. And soon after, came Eva.

One-of-a-Kind Leather Goods — Brought into the Digital Age With Eva

Sixteen years later, Eva joined us in the workshop. She had a vision — one that helped us step into the online world. We started on Amazon, then launched our own storefront.

I remained at the bench, Dorothy handled operations, and Eva shaped the brand’s future.

Grief and Growth — Carrying Her Memory Forward

In 2021, we lost Dorothy suddenly. The grief was heavy, but I kept going — not out of obligation, but because crafting is simply who I am.

A quote Dorothy loved now hangs above my bench:

“What comes from the heart, stays.”

Now, It’s Time to Close This Chapter

Eva and I both agree — the time is right. Once our final handcrafted Shoes are sold, I’ll be stepping away from the store.

The next chapter of our life will be all about family — about showing up fully, sharing stories, and creating new memories with our grandchildren.
